Frequently Asked Questions
Why should voters vote for you?
I’m the only engineer running for Town Council. With a departure of our latest town engineer we are now breaking in our fifth contracted engineer in six years, so we need continuity from someone like me who understands all the technical and political issues involved in expanding our development and improving the quality of life for our residents. I will apply my technical and strategic planning expertise to make smarter decisions for resilient infrastructure, improved public safety, and to cut wasteful spending. I’ve been a resident of Hideout since 2019 and was involved in developing our master plans for the town’s water, sewer and storm drainage. I love Hideout and my wife and I are here to stay. We want to make this community the best it can be.
What are your top 3 priorities?
1) Build resilient infrastructure for the future
2) Improve public safety
3) Help cut wasteful spending
How would you ensure responsible, environmentally sensitive growth as the town develops?
I have proposed a charter for a new Advisory Committee to proactively meet with developers to resolve concept planning issues prior to submission to the Planning Commission. For example, we need to enforce stricter adherence to our town codes for storm water drainage and retention, open spaces and wildlife corridors, and public roads and sidewalks/trails. This approach will significantly reduce the time and costs involved in the planning process while preserving our town values of stunning views, connected trails, and open spaces.
Is new development out of control or critical for our economic growth?
Appropriate and responsible commercial development is critical to securing viable economic growth. There are four areas suitable for commercial development: Wildhorse, Ross Creek, Richardson Flat, and Settlement. We should be pursuing all of these opportunities in a coordinated strategic fashion, rather than as individual one offs. Since the majority of our residents are seasonal, we need to perform market research to ascertain the right mix of commercial properties that will be sustainable year round.
As Hideout grows, how would you fund future maintenance and services?
To help fund costly road maintenance services, I recommend establishing utility fees for large, heavy construction vehicles that cause much of the damage when traversing over finished streets to and from construction sites. I also support responsible, community appropriate economic development that will provide additional sales tax revenue to fund future projects, such as a community center and gathering space.
How would you plan to foster Hideout local culture and town identity without any local gathering spaces?
We should expand the number of our Town Concert events held at our Public Works parking lot and at the Jordanelle State Park. Additionally, we should improve the scope and content of our town website, newsletter, and establish a community Facebook page - all done with volunteer community support. We should also encourage establishing community social and recreation clubs.
Should Hideout taxes be raised, stay the same, or be reduced?
I would like to see our property taxes remain the same by covering the increased maintenance expenses with a combination of sales taxes and utility fees for heavy construction vehicles that cause most of the damage to our roads
Is the town doing enough to prepare for wildfire risks?
We’ve made progress with Station 56 and Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) code updates, but must push further with fire-wise construction, HOA collaboration, and better emergency planning.
